Homeopathy is a natural system of medicine that offer a global and personalized healing approach to each person. The word comes form the greek language - “Homeo” meaning similar or alike, and “Pathos” meaning disease or suffering, which explains the basic homeopathic principal, “Like Cures Like”. This principal first originated in Ayurveda (Holistic Healing Science of India) about 5000 years ago. Later, Hippocrates (460-370 BC) proved this same law using plant products. The modern homoeopathic medicine fundamentals were founded by a German physician and chemist, Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843).

Dr. Hahnemann experimented on himself and noticed that the intake of cinchona (quinine) tree bark in strong dosages produced symptoms similar to malaria fever. He then used cinchona as a therapeutic agent and proved that in minute amounts it cured malarial symptoms in himself. Thus, the Law of similars developed, which states that when a substance is given in quantitative dosages (strong) it will produce particular symptoms (adverse or toxic reaction), whereas the same substance taken in infinitesimal dosages (microdosages) can eliminate the same symptoms in a sick person.

Homeopathic medicine is made form plant, animal, mineral of chemical substances, form which Mother tinctures, called Homeopathic Extracts, are produced. There tinctures are then diluted to obtain infinitesimal dosages, which is called the Law of Infinitesimality, or microdosing. The homeopathic Law of Individualization states that is treats the complete or whole person. Therefore, when a treatment is recommended, different medicine might be suggested for people with the same illness. Homeopathic remedies, however, will be most effective when prescribed after a detailed study of a patient's drug picture, the totality of the symptoms, the individual’s constitution, lifestyle, physical and psychological attributes, diet, nutrition, family history and other modalities.

Homoeopathy is more that a physical phenomenon. It work at both thought and emotional levels. Successive dilution of a substance releases higher vibrational energy and affects the thought and emotions of an ailing person. This energy reaches into the deepest areas of the body to stimulate and rejuvenate the life force of the cells and to heal from the inside out.

Modern clinical medical research and controlled studies, mainly in Europe, have proven that homeopathy is effective for influenza, headache, rheumatism and allergies. Additionally, a study from the 1987 periodical, Thrombosis Research, reported that homoeopathic dosages of aspirin (less that 100th of usual dosage) given to healthy human subjects, reduced platelet aggregation and increased bleeding time.

When choosing a remedy for a patient, a homeopath assesses and evaluates that patient's subjective and objective symptoms. He or she reviews the symptoms carefully and uses the Law of Similars to determine the appropriate medicine. For example, the consumption of coffee causes insomnia in some, but when given in homeopathic dosages, it can produce sleep, aloe in herbal dosages has a laxative action, but homeopathically, it controls diarrhea, and raw onion causes watery and burning eyes, and yet can be used to stop these symptoms.

Can homeopathy cure all diseases? “No”. Many health conditions can be treated by homeopathy more effectively and more quickly than with conventional and other medical methods. Sometimes complementary or adjunct therapies are required. Some people may need vitamins and minerals, herbs and allopathic medicine and surgery. Others may need exercise, yoga, meditation, chiropractic, acupuncture, acupressure, massage, hydrotherapy, etc. Homeopathy can be used. However. For specific acute of chronic illness, health maintenance, longevity and prevention. It can also strengthen organs and tissues and rebuild vitality and stamina.

There are over 2000 homeopathic remedies. In some patient studies, it becomes very hard for modern homeopaths to select a single appropriate remedy, because of the close similarities among common remedies for a variety of symptoms. Therefore, a homeopath would recommend a combination of two or more remedies which are the most successful and close to the symptoms. This increases the chance for a correct remedy.

Diluted homeopathic preparations are safe, free of side effects and risk, because the quantity of substance is small. The Mother tinctures (extracts), mainly of herbs, are also safe. It is wise not to self prescribe a homeopathic medicine when you are going for medical treatment without professional advice.

For many years there have been well-known supporters of homeopathy, such as Queen Elizabeth who is Patron of the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital. It is also known that Prince Charles carries homeopathic medicine whenever he travels, and Mahatma Gandhi said, “Homeopathy cures a larger percentage of cases than any other method of treatment”.
